CATABOLISM OF AMINO ACIDS & UREA CYCLE
+
In this eLearning module, you will learn about the catabolism of amino acids and the urea cycle. Catabolism of amino acids involves the removal of the amino group, followed by the breakdown of the resulting carbon skeleton. Catabolism of amino acids can be broadly categorized into two processes, the breakdown of amino acids to carbohydrate precursors and potentially leading to the formation of glucose and transformations leading to acetyl CoA that result in the potential formation of ketone bodies. Urea Cycle is a cycle of biochemical reactions that produces urea from ammonia. This cycle occurs in ureotelic organisms. The urea cycle converts highly toxic ammonia to urea for excretion.
